PAULA CAPPA EDITS

I have some 20 years of experience in professional Editorial Departments at various advertising agencies, newspapers and magazines, and in medical and business.

Most of my editing experience is in areas of medical copy and fact checking, advertising and business copy, and now fiction.  For fiction editing I use the following reference books: Chicago Manual of Style, Words Into Type, The Careful Writer, Fowler’s Modern English Usage, The Grammar Bible. And for story content/developmental editing: Writing Fiction by Janet Burroway, Story by Robert McKee, The Fire in Fiction by Donald Maass, The Art of Character by David Corbett, Getting into Character by Brandilyn Collins, The Art of Fiction by John Gardner, Self-Editing for Fiction Writers by Renni Browne and Dave King, and many more.

For nonfiction editing, I use Chicago Manual of Style, Words into Type, AP Stylebook, AMA Manual of Style, MS English Usage, A Dictionary of Contemporary American Usage.

I edit for grammatical correctness, clarity, consistency, context, and aesthetics as well as for rhythm. I make every effort to remain conscious to preserve the author’s style. I love the realities of fiction and the basics of good storytelling.
